Why dessert is not a word?

For anyone that has ever been on a diet, you’ll know that they always tell you to skip dessert. Realistically, we think that’s why so many people fail.. Skipping dessert sounds like a horrible idea to us, and if you believe the experts, it’s also totally unnecessary.

Here are the best reasons we found around the web that convinced us that we should always finish our meal with dessert.

It makes you happy!

Who doesn’t want to be happy, right? Well, we have great news for all those of us with a sweet tooth. It has been proven over and over again that sugary sweets produce a happy hormone in the body and lifts our mood. We’ve without any scientific proof, we all know that opening that bar of chocolate, or devouring a slice of cake is one of the best feelings in the world. (Obviously in moderation).

It gives us closure

What meal is complete without dessert. Even if we are watching what we eat, our brain thinks a meal should be 3 courses, not 2. Having even a small amount of dessert gives our brain the sugar it needs and the closure it deserves at the dinner table, or restaurant. It’s also a great conversation starter. No-one in history ever exclaimed oooooo that garden salad looks delicious.

It satisfies your cravings

We all have them and they aren’t always bad. Cravings are a way for your brain to let you know what your body wants. If you constantly deny your body what it desires, then you may end up unhappy, so why risk it. This kind of strict denial is one of the leading causes of diets failing, so instead of binge eating, allow yourself that small sweet treat after dinner. A few bites of dessert won’t kill the diet, or make you overweight. Everything in moderation is good for you.

It can help increase your nutrient levels

Not all desserts were created equal. We say this because you could head for that bag of plain, carbohydrate loaded potato chips, or you could try out our homemade Baklava. Did you know Baklava is loaded with protein rich pistachios? Or you could try a range of our sweet cheese filled desserts, or homemade ice cream. A great source of dairy without the guilt.

Energy, they are a great source of energy

We all need energy to get through the day and there is no better source than natural sugars to keep us focussed and stop us feeling sluggish in the afternoons. No-one in history reaches for that carb loaded pastry in the hopes they will be energetic after lunch. You know yourself, if you have a big meal, all you want to do is sleep. But when you consume a small amount of natural sugars, you will be wide awake and ready to take on the world.

Finally – You don’t make friends with salad….

When you head out to a dinner party, you take dessert, not the salad. When you stope for coffee with friends, you have a pastry, not lettuce, so why deny your body the pleasures of dessert?

You deserve a sweet reward after a tough day, week or year, and what better way to catch up with friends than to drop in and have a coffee, a cake and a chat.
